We’ve watched the trailer, we’ve checked out the screenshots and we’ve immersed ourselves in the press blurbs. If you’re a fan of those old-school action movies and games that were two-a-penny back in the ’80s and ’90s, you’re going to be right at home with Prison City.
Old school action
It launches in Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with full current-gen optimisation in house. You can thank the Programancer and Retroware teams for this one, as they chuck us back in time, to 1997 in which a crumbling Detroit needs a bit of a hand. It’s here where you come in, armed to the teeth, ready to take back the streets.
Priced at £14.24, Prison City doesn’t feel like it’s going to be one of those games that is over in an evening. Instead you’ll be tasked with taking to the platform-filled stages. From there, defeating bad guys, uncovering secrets and making a bit of a name for yourself.
A campaign plays host to most of this. But to keep things interesting is a Boss Rush mode as well as a Bomb Mode. Make of those what you will.
