prison city
Prison City on Xbox will take you back

Paying homage to some of the classic action movies and games of the 1980s and 1990s, Prison City makes a run for it. Landing on Xbox in the process.

We’ve watched the trailer, we’ve checked out the screenshots and we’ve immersed ourselves in the press blurbs. If you’re a fan of those old-school action movies and games that were two-a-penny back in the ’80s and ’90s, you’re going to be right at home with Prison City.

Old school action

It launches in Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with full current-gen optimisation in house. You can thank the Programancer and Retroware teams for this one, as they chuck us back in time, to 1997 in which a crumbling Detroit needs a bit of a hand. It’s here where you come in, armed to the teeth, ready to take back the streets.

Priced at £14.24, Prison City doesn’t feel like it’s going to be one of those games that is over in an evening. Instead you’ll be tasked with taking to the platform-filled stages. From there, defeating bad guys, uncovering secrets and making a bit of a name for yourself.

A campaign plays host to most of this. But to keep things interesting is a Boss Rush mode as well as a Bomb Mode. Make of those what you will.

Key features

  • 80s and 90s ACTION MOVIE & GAME REFERENCES – Prison City is packed with nods and homages to classic action movies and games from the 80s and 90s, including iconic one-liners, memorable characters, and familiar gameplay mechanics. Fans of the action genre will feel right at home.
  • FIGHT YOUR WAY ACROSS AN ENTIRE CITY – Players will fight their way across an entire city, grappling through eight or more zones that range from sewers and factories to nature preserves. Each zone presents its own unique challenges, from environmental hazards to powerful bosses that will put your skills to the test.
  • FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE… IN THE FAR OFF YEAR OF 1997 – The crime-ridden and crumbling city of Detroit was evacuated in 1995 and became an impenetrable mega-prison. In the present-day (of 1997) an evil group has infiltrated and seized control. Former cop Hal Bruzer is called back from retirement by his mentor, “The Chief,” to take down the ‘Techno-Terrorists’ and their appointed Wardens… to hopefully, bring the ‘spirit’ of Detroit back!!
