The South Korean shipping company HMM announced June 13 that it had begun offering direct service, connecting the Far East, India and Latin America (FIL), at the port of Jakarta in Indonesia with the maiden call taking place June 8, 2023 in the Tanjung Priok district.

The vessel MV. Hyundai Shanghai, which boasts a carrying capacity of 6,987 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), will be the first ship for HMM’s FIL service at Jakarta. That journey will mark the first direct service offered by HMM between Indonesia and Latin America with connections to key Asian ports.

“HMM is convinced that this enhanced service will provide more efficient transportation options, strengthening trade relationships and promoting economic growth in these regions,” the company said in a statement. “HMM looks forward to providing customers with the FIL service and reinforcing HMM’s position as one of the global leaders in the shipping industry.”

Following the announcement, HMM’s FIL port rotation now includes Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Jakarta, Singapore, Kattupalli, Santos, Paranaguá, Itapoá, Navegantes, Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Hong Kong.
