train sim world 3 scotrail express edinburgh glasgow

If there’s one game franchise that has evolved massively over time, it’s that of Train Sim World. We’ve gone from the original game, through Train Sim World 2 and now into Train Sim World 3. And still the content keeps coming with the latest addition whisking us off to the railways of Scotland in the form of the Train Sim World 3: ScotRail Express: Edinburgh – Glasgow Add-on.

Available to purchase, download and add into your Train Sim World 3 base game right now is the ScotRail Express: Edinburgh – Glasgow Add-on. Joining a whole host of other DLC add-ons for the game, the Edinburgh – Glasgow routes will have Train Sim World 3 players driving their way through the day-to-day jobbings of ScotRail’s Class 385, moving between Edinburgh and Glasgow, via the delights of Falkirk High.

The Train Sim World 3: ScotRail Express: Edinburgh – Glasgow Add-on has come about via the Partner Programme developer Rivet Games, taking their local knowledge and translating it into game.

This means that players will immediately recognise the built-up landscapes at either end of the route, with both Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street recreated in stunning detail. The Balmoral Hotel and Edinburgh Castle loom over the railway line as trains pass through the deep cutting and even the local trams can be seen running parallel to the line at Edinburgh Park, whilst between the cities are swathes of greenery and intermediate stations at Croy, Falkirk High and Polmont, among others.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said: “It’s great to see our Class 385 fleet and the Glasgow – Edinburgh mainline come to life in Train Sim World 3, following the successful addition of our Cathcart Line and former Class 314 fleet in the previous version of the game. We can’t wait to see what the players think as they take a virtual trip between Scotland’s two biggest cities on the newest trains in the ScotRail fleet.”

There’s more to this addition than just the route though and first features for Train Sim World 3 include AI controller trams running along Edinburgh’s Princes Street whilst the introduction of a working Train Monitoring System will let you change up your passenger announcements.

Matt Peddlesden, Executive Producer at Dovetail Games: “I’m delighted that Rivet Games have been able to bring this key railway from Scotland into Train Sim World 3 along with the ultra-modern ScotRail Class 385 units. This is an exciting release for all fans of Scottish railways!”

Jasper Holzapfel, Community Manager at Rivet Games: “As a Scottish studio, we’re more than excited for this release. Recreating a route many of us often use was particularly fun and interesting. Combined with the modern Class 385, we can’t wait for our community to get their hands on this!”

You’ll need Train Sim World 3 on Xbox, PlayStation (from Jan 31st) or PC in your digital library ahead of being able to do anything with the new add-on, but from there you can grab Train Sim World 3: ScotRail Express: Edinburgh – Glasgow Add-on from your usual digital stores. For us, that means hitting up the Xbox Store. It’s priced at £29.99.

There’s a decent little video that is well worth watching too.

DLC Description:

Out of the 5 railway lines between Edinburgh and Glasgow, the most important for inter-city travel has always been the line via Falkirk High. Being the most direct and with 8 intermediate stations en route, trains have been offering a shuttle-like service for the past 180 years. Brand new in every right, enter the ScotRail BR Class 385! This fleet of units were designed to expand ScotRail’s electric fleet. Following modernisation of Scotland’s Central Belt, which saw electrification come to many key lines, the Class 385 entered service in 2018, and since has allowed for fully electric services on the Glasgow – Edinburgh Line. Ride and Drive commuter trains between Scotland’s two principal cities, complete route tasks, or simply go trainspotting from your favourite vantage point.
