OTTAWA, Ontario–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#HR–BioTalent Canada is now accepting nominations for its industry-leading Catalyst Award for Top New Hire.

The coveted award recognizes the achievements of young employees who are wage subsidy recipients in Canada’s burgeoning bio-economy. The award also spotlights employers that give these young minds an opportunity to grow and thrive.

Since the award was launch in 2015, the Catalyst Award for Top New Hire has shone a light on the positive impact students, new graduates, barriered youth, and Internationally Educated Professionals have when employers give them the opportunity to put their education and skills into practice.

The most recent winner, Erin Ward, earned the award in 2022 for her contributions as a CleanSlate UV co-op student. CleanSlate UV is a healthcare start-up that harnesses ultraviolet light to sanitize mobile devices.

Erin, an honours immunology student at McGill University in Montreal, was quick to adopt the “all-hands-on-deck” culture at CleanSlate UV. From creating scientific enablement documents to product testing, Erin’s curiosity allowed her to develop skills beyond her area of knowledge.

“Recognizing wage subsidy participants for their achievements is critically important,” says Rob Henderson, President, and CEO of BioTalent Canada. “It is these individuals who are the future of our industry and will be leading important areas of the economy going forward.”

BioTalent Canada wage subsidies have placed more than 12,500 people with bio-economy employers nationwide. The participants have made important contributions to their employers despite having limited work experience.

“I was honoured to be chosen as the 2022 winner of the Catalyst Award,” says Erin Ward. “This recognition has opened doors for me and is an accolade that employers in Canada’s bio-economy respect and look favourably on.”

Bio-economy employers are strongly encouraged to submit nominations that describe, in detail, how their recent wage subsidy hires have gone above and beyond to make meaningful contributions to their organization.

The 2023 Catalyst Award is accepting entries from employers until March 31, 2023. The winner will be announced in late spring and receive a $1,000 prize. Criteria is based on how the new hire made contributions to company culture, innovation, achievement of an objective, or helped to overcome a business challenge.
